The poor rich.

I think most would agree that there is monetary discrimination. The rich discriminate against the poor. Those rich snobs. Well, here’s a thought: what if they are the true objects of discrimination and we are the ones responsible for their snobbish divisive behavior? Rich people get treated like shit simply because they have money. We build all kinds of justifications for our dislike of those money-grubbing whores. But the truth is that we are just jealous. That’s it. Let’s call it for what it is. You’re pissed because you aint got no money….and THEY do. Shit. We complicate the jealousy with justifications (they have a bmw, they are snobbish, they treat me like scum, they should care more for the poor). .. but here’s a thought: what if there is nothing wrong with being rich? Convince yourself of that and you will discover the real meaning behind your disdain for people with money. The problem with that rich four letter word is that it’s only meaning is derived from using the self as the rule. Meaning is useless when you subjectify it to your own ambiguous mood. After all, look at yourself: you are rich…compared to half the world. Sure you have bills and payments and a house and all kinds of other things that you have trapped yourself in. But someone has looked at you and wished that they had the money you do. YOU are that rich snob to someone else. There’s this rich bitch at work. Her name is Sarah. Young, bmw, not friendly, never talks to me, has a house being built, has a diamond rock the size of my head, bla bla bla. But let’s try a little empathy with our cash cow: She grows up in a house with money. Kids treat her differently because she has money. She grows up awkward, isolated, and a bit socially defunct. Any inkling of a behavior that resembles snobbishness is made obvious. She gets called a snob and like most kids, you can make them out to be something just by that name calling (i.e. call a kid a brat long enough and he will become one). It doesn’t end. She pulls up to work in her shiny beamer with a refined skill of not being able to relate to others. And her lack of social skills translates as snobbish. Finally she gets tired of it and decides to be what they want her to be: a rich dirty bitch. It’s the most sensical solution. So that’s it: we hate the monster we create. Why would they feel the need to separate themselves from us? They don’t have near the reason that we do. Their attitude is your fault. Which brings us back to jealousy. And what is jealousy, really? It’s a nice word that softens the reality; It’s the expressive side of that same old burning question. What’s wrong with me?

more (not that you are still reading….yawn): Hal owns the company I work for. What is interesting is that there are certain people (like Hal) that I really like to be rich. Hal is the nicest guy and is cool with everyone. If he wasn’t rich, I’d want him to be, you know? I don’t know how that fits this discussion, except that i believe monetary discrimination has NOTHING to do with money, and all about having an easy excuse to hate/judge. If jesus were a coworker would you want him to be rich? Can God be rich? It’s not an easy question, especially considering the fact that someone looked at you today and wished that they had your money.
